With increasing number of identity theft and miss-use incid ents we do observe a significant fraud in e-commerce and thus growing inter ests on trustworthiness of person authentication. Nowadays we find biometri c applications in areas like border control, national ID cards, e-banking, e-commerce, e-health etc. Large-scale applications such as the European Uni on SmartBorder Concept, the Visa Information System (VIS) and Unique Identi fication (UID) in India require high accuracy and also reliability, interop erability, scalability and usability. Many of these are joint requirements also for forensic applications.\n\nMultimodal biometrics combined with fusi on techniques can improve recognition performance. Efficient searching or i ndexing methods can accelerate identification efficiency. Additionally, qua lity of captured biometric samples can strongly influence the performance.  Moreover, mobile biometrics is an emerging area and biometrics based smartp hones can support deployment and acceptance of biometric systems.\n\nHoweve r, concerns about security and privacy cannot be neglected. The relevant te chniques in the area of presentation attack detection (liveness detection) and template protection are about to supplement biometric systems, in order to improve fake resistance, prevent potential attacks such as cross matchi ng, identity theft etc.\n\nThe BIOSIG 2018 conference addresses these issue s and will present innovations and best practices that can be transferred i nto future applications. The conference is jointly organized by the Compete nce Center for Applied Security Technology (CAST), the German Federal Offic e for Information Security (BSI), the European Association for Biometrics ( EAB), the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC), the TeleT rusT-Association, the Norwegian Biometrics Laboratory (NBL), the Center for Research in Security and Privacy (CRSIP), the Fraunhofer Institute for Com puter Graphics Research IGD, IET Biometrics Journal and the special interes t group BIOSIG of the Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (GI). The conference will be technically co-sponsored by IEEE and papers will be added to IEEE Xplore.\n\nWe invite stakeholders and technical experts to submit original research papers. Industrial contributions presenting lessons learnt from pr actical usage, case study, recent results of prototypes, are also welcomed. \n\n\n\nCall for Papers\n\n\n\nPaper Submission Instructions\n\n Paper Subm ission Instructions are as follows:\n\n In order to submit a manuscript fo r review, an account at the EasyChair site must be created. Authors should submit full length papers (up to 8 pages) in LNI format (see below). Submi tted papers should not have been published, accepted or under review elsewh ere.  Papers will be subject to a double blind review process. Thus submis sions must be anonymous. BIOSIG is supporting reproducible research (RR). All contributions are encouraged to:  - present experiments related to pub licly available datasets as a first requirement for RR;   - make generated system scores openly available as a second requirement for RR.   Addition ally, the sharing of plots or performance figures should align with the int ernational standard ISO/IEC 19795-1. Moreover open source code of the propo sed methods and detailed instructions to reproduce the experiments is stron gly encouraged.  \n\n We are seeking a harmonized appearance of the conf erence proceedings and thus invite authors to align their manuscripts with the Harmonized Biometric Vocabulary, as published in the international stan dard ISO/IEC 2382-37:  http://standards.iso.org/ittf/PubliclyAvailableStan dards/c066693_ISO_IEC_2382-37_2017.zip \n\n Authors are required by LNI to transfer copyrights for papers printed in the proceedings.  Since IEEE will not be the owner of the copyright in the Conference publication, but r ather a permitted (licensed) user, IEEE will hold the non-exclusive, irrevo cable, royalty-free worldwide rights to publish, sell and distribute the co pyrighted work. At the time of submission of the final papers (ready for p ress) at least one author for each accepted paper must register to the Conf erence at Full Registration rate, otherwise the paper will not be included in the Conference Program. BIOSIG reserves the right to exclude a paper fr om publication (e.g., removal from IEEE Xplore) if the paper is not present ed (no-show) at the Conference.
