SUMMARY:BIOSIG 2016
DESCRIPTION:15th International Conference of the Biometrics Special Interes
t Group (BIOSIG)\n\nBiometrics provides efficient and reliable solutions to
recognize individuals. With increasing number of identity theft and miss-u
se incidents we do observe a significant fraud in e-commerce and thus growi
ng interests on trustworthiness of person authentication. Nowadays we find
biometric applications in areas like border control, national ID cards, e-b
anking, e-commerce, e-health etc. Large-scale applications such as the Euro
pean Union SmartBorder Concept, the Visa Information System (VIS) and Uniqu
e Identification (UID) in India require high accuracy and also reliability,
interoperability, scalability and usability. Many of these are joint requi
rements also for forensic applications.\n\nMultimodal biometrics combined w
ith fusion techniques can improve recognition performance. Efficient search
ing or indexing methods can accelerate identification efficiency. Additiona
lly, quality of captured biometric samples can strongly influence the perfo
rmance. Moreover, mobile biometrics is an emerging area and biometrics base
d smartphones can support deployment and acceptance of biometric systems.\n
\nHowever, concerns about security and privacy cannot be neglected. The rel
evant techniques in the area of presentation attack detection (liveness det
ection) and template protection are about to supplement biometric systems,
in order to improve fake resistance, prevent potential attacks such as cros
s matching, identity theft etc.\n\nThe BIOSIG 2016 conference addresses the
se issues and will present innovations and best practices that can be trans
ferred into future applications.\n\nThe conference is jointly organized by
the Competence Center for Applied Security Technology (CAST), the German Fe
deral Office for Information Security (BSI), the European Association for B
iometrics (EAB), the ICT COST Action IC1106, the Joint Research Centre of t
he European Commission (JRC), the TeleTrusT-Association, the Norwegian Biom
etrics Laboratory (NBL), the Center for Advanced Security Research Darmstad
t (CASED), the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD, IET
Biometrics Journal and the special interest group BIOSIG of the Gesellscha
ft für Informatik e.V. (GI). The conference will be technically co-sponsore
d by IEEE and papers will be added to IEEE Xplore.\n\n\n\nOrganizing Commit
